There are two recognized color patterns in this breed: Tobiano and Overo. The first pattern appears to be white with large spots of color. Legs are generally white. The second color pattern is colored.

This organization was founded in 1947 to encourage the promotion of “quality with color” horses, ponies, and miniatures as well as establish a registry for maintaining their pedigree and ownership records in a support organization for this breed enthusiasts. The association pinto has breeders of these horses as members.
